Pressing Into Him Luke
5:1 - So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of
God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret. Have
you ever been someplace where you had the opportunity to meet someone
famous or had an opportunity to get close to them, like close enough to
touch them? Fans of all kinds whether its at a concert or some ball game,
those fans will get as close as they can to the stage or field of play
while others will wait in lines for days or hours just to get a glimpse
of someone they want to see in person. People like this will keep pressing
in until they see or hear that special person or team they desperately
want to watch. Jesus Himself became a person of great interest, so much
that many people came from miles and miles around just to see and hear
Him speak. They "pressed into Him" to get as close as they could.
Was it because He looked good or had a great voice? Was there something
about His smile or how he dressed that attracted people? In this verse,
Luke says that they came to "hear the Word of God." When was
the last time you pressed into church and sat as close as you could to
the Pastor just to hear the Word of God? Ouch! But it's true! When we fall in love with the Word of God, we fall in love with Jesus. And when that happens, we just can't get close enough to Him. We find ourselves on our knees, on our faces before God or in our closets praying and seeking His face and listening to hear His voice. And we desire a relationship so personal, so special and so intimate that nothing else comes close or matters. In the book of James 4:8 the Bible says that if we draw near to God, then He will draw near to us. Press into Jesus today and draw close to Him. Find that quiet place to be alone with Him and ask the great Holy Spirit to fill you with His love and presence. Open your Bible and start reading the Word of God and very soon you will start to understand why the great multitude pressed into Jesus just to hear the Word of God. Right now, start your day off with a prayer to know Jesus in a more intimate way and press into Him all the more, like never before. Joyce and I love you, we believe in you and we call you blessed today. CATCH
